Mary from that Book
This is something I grew up with; a plate from a book of very fine imagined portraits of characters from the Bible. Despite all the other art there is out there, this is still how I picture the Mother of Christ.

The Blessed Virgin 2000
Actually, this is Maddie Eldridge shot unawares when she was just a teenager at Giovanna's baby shower. Always loved this image for its supernal grace and innocence and always meant to use it in something but never found a way. Some images are just too potent to be components of something else and must stand alone, I guess.

Dan Dennett, 2006 for TED
Thanks to Kevin Wiedeman for (accidentally) showing me this.
It's just sensible talk, is all, about religion and like that.

Couldn't Resist 2010
When Neil and I went with Ted to visit a family grave at a cemetery in Phoenix, I shot this photograph of - whatever this is - some cheesy, Jesusy, granite edifice that they have there. Made a minor alteration, though.

Cheap Statues 2000
I like taking pictures of statues. Don't know why. I don't really like taking pictures of people, but I don't mind taking pictures of statues of people. These statues aren't very good, though. I found them at some religious objects nursery on the side of the road one night, somewhere around here in Missouri.

Ave Discordia!
This makes me smile.

My pal Ed, back when we both lived in Berkeley, introduced me to the Principia Discordia,
which is this sort of Bible that these wacky fuckers who call themselves Discordians (or Erisians) made up,
a sort of guidelines for the worship of Eris/Discordia who is, it happens, the Goddess of Chaos.
I think it's just for fun and not really to be taken seriously.
Last I remember, religion and anarchy don't mix so well.
Still, if you absolutely have to have a religion...
I was interested in it mostly for its recognition of the whole 23 enigma,
which I was real into back then.
I'd love to look at the thing now.
I think it might be totally hilarious
and I could probably use some churchin' up.
