Nine Crosses 1998/2000
Here's a piece of work I never thought I'd see again. This is one of those that sold almost as soon as it was finished - to an insurance office or something - I don't really remember. The iron discs I got working in a factory in Phoenix. I then painted a real copper patina in the outlines of crosses and oxidized them with a muratic acid solution. It's a pretty nice effect and one I'll look forward to repeating one day again.

Dahlquist with Apple 2011
Late last year I had the distinct honor of photographing Roland Dahlquist, artist, illustrator and instructor at the Art Institute of Phoenix. For the first hour of the shoot, Aaron Pierson and I were shooting him high key against white and that was going well. Then Aaron handed me the camera and I turned out the lights, all except for one with a honeycomb screen. I shot a few but still felt we needed something else. So I grabbed a particularly large (and delicious, according to Dahlquist) apple I had on my desk and made these.

Stucco Shields 2011
Here are two outlines I found on the front of one of those empty buildings on Central this morning. My guess is the building used to be a Salvation Army or something but the only evidence of that are these two empty shields which seem to me to be ghosts of the old SA logo.
