Eighty-One Circles on Tar
When I was at Hamburg Kennedy in Manhattan, I sometimes went out on the penthouse roof, weather permitting, and noticed right away that there were all these white, round shapes scattered randomly over the tar surface there. They must have been rings from buckets of paint, maybe, or who-knows-what. Point is, I shot 'em and here they are, all organized, nine by nine.

Manhattan Skyscrapers Reflected in Rainwater 2010
These images were shot from the penthouse roof of the Hamburg Kennedy Photographs offices at 36th and Madison in Manhattan in the beginning of March, I think.
Pipe Motif 2010
I found these great, green-painted pipes up against the wall by the platform at the train station (forget which one) in Brooklyn on the way out to Great Neck and to visit with the Levin family*. Obviously, I really enjoy a nice cereal motif and this, arranged in this way, makes for a particularly sinewy one.

Brooklyn Liberty Man 2010
In the weeks leading up to April 15th, you'll see these guys all over New York, dressed up in either a cheesy The Statue of Liberty costume, like this guy, or as Uncle Sam. They're all hovering about on corners trying, with their signs and sandwich boards, to entice you into having your taxes done at one or another of the hundreds of little file shops that pepper the map of the area. This fella was doing his bit on the corner of Metropolitan and something - I forget what - in the Williamsberg neighborhood of Brooklyn. While he didn't say anything to me about it, it was pretty clear he was not that into my taking his picture. I guess it's not hard to imagine that he would probably rather not be remembered this way, huh? Maybe if he knew what a neat little loop these photos turned out to be he might've been left with a little more of his dignity.

Eyes to the Ground 2010
More pedestrian photographs and surface fragment compositions - but Brooklyn-style this time, and with the camera always pointing down.
