Stomp Stomp 2008/2012
Shot the frames for this at BB's Blues Jazz and Soups on Broadway in St. Louis. I remember being pretty high after a Tuesday night at the Shanti and really getting into the Bottoms Up Blues Gang, who were on the stage, and all the fun stuff I could do with my little Olympus. Then I got home, sobered up and and completely forgot about these pictures for four years.

Derelict City Bus Composite 2008/2012
As I've said, it was four years ago on the day after a particularly hectic Halloween and I'm on the long trek home from a party. After passing the train here, I came upon what must've been the city transit scrapyard or something. I'm not sure and don't remember clearly, but these pictures are proof I took a break from my walk inside an abandoned city bus. Have you ever been in the driver's seat of an abandoned bus? Well, I have and I'll further say that putting this scene back together after so many insane years is a unique experience for sure.

Headache Train 2008/2012
Walking a long, long way from a party on the southside to home downtown... by the time I made it to this train passing, I was pretty ragged and not happydrunk anymore. The sun was crazy bright, the sound of the rails were earsplitting, and I had to keep going. Would you have had the presence of mind to record the moment?

Careening Wall 2008/2012
Using the wall as a point of reference, this sequence might give you an idea of what it's like to walk down the street drunk.
Or it might not.

It Must Be a Sign 2008/2012
Quite a bit will emerge from this long lost folio of images and some of them, as you see, will be animated. On Halloween of 2008, I went to CBGB with my little Olympus and got pretty drunk, I guess. Then I followed Fred Friction back to Ross and Kim's attic for more of whatever. Then Sherman Sherman came by and he had some weed with him. I shouldn't have smoked, I know, but my resistance was typically low and I got myself messed up in a way that was no longer comfortable. I freaked out a little and left the party without a word and began wandering the neighborhood, reeling a bit and unsure of which direction to head. I realized I still had the camera and started, in my haze, snapping everything. In that state of mind, everything seemed fascinating as I caromed from sidewalk to sidewalk, believing world class art was getting made. Turned out, though I meant to head home, I was walking in the wrong direction and ended up on the far south side of town by some railroad tracks and a Guatemalan fellow who invited me in for some refreshment. So I ended up walking all day - way past being drunk or high and on into miserable and broke - but still shooting. I did finally make it home, exhausted and hungover and began processing some of what I'd shot. Some results appeared here but a lot of it was forgotten - until now.

The Happy Ending (tiny excerpt) 2012
Did I ever tell you about the time I met Jean Simmons? It was at The Vagabond Theater that used to be on Wilshire Blvd. near Carondolet in L.A. (of course.) Occasionally they'd have tribute nights there at the poor, fading moviehouse and so I went one night by myself to see a double of Guys and Dolls and Elmer Gantry, I think it was. Little did I realize she was right there on hand doing a little Q&A and then autographs afterwards. Now I was 18 at the time, a krazy art student and very into my punk rock thing so when I approached the concessions counter for my autograph (which, yes, I still have) it was on her face that she was pretty uncomfortable with me. She was very polite, however, and signed quickly. I, for my part, feel certain I expanded her demographic that night and have been a loyal adulant since.
In more recent news, Ms, Simmons finally succumbed to lung cancer on January 22nd, 2010, nine days before her 81st birthday.
So, here she is in a tiny bit of The Happy Ending, saying goodnight and rushing off into the dark.
Bye, Jean. Miss you!

Casper Sparks No.1 2012
Angela Casper. a colleague of mine, took these pictures of sparks which I thought might make an interesting animation. I don't think I'm wrong about that, though I don't think this is quite the right approach. So be it. I'll just take another pass at another time.

Sunset No.7 2010
Tonight's sunset was cloudless and boring and makes this rooftop horizon look like the surface of Mars or something. I tried again to do the time-lapse thing but there wasn't much point in it.
